Student-Driven campus design
Project reflection
This project was all about creating a new and functional campus for AHS. We all started with with what we didn't like about our school and what we would like to change about it. We also said what we liked about it. We put our opinions to the side and we interviewed other people around the community to see what they would like to see as well. We carried the rest of the project out from that. The “Project Based Learning” aspect of the school was very clear in this project. Design thinking was what every single person based their project off of, mainly because this project was a design thinking project. This project was supposed to engage the targeted audience, in this case it would be the board of directors. Are final product was to be shown to the group so eventually the new school could be build. That was the end result but I think that the final product is your group work and how your group work reflected with how well you completed your work without arguments.
The thing I learned from Photoshop and 3D rendering is that they are way more important than I thought. The rendering make or break what your poster looks like. It also tells people a lot about how hard your group works because it is harder but you have to be willing to take the challenges to make Beautiful Work. I physically learned that you have to be very patient and have multiple people working on the project because it is stressful and hard. I learned a lesson with photoshop as well in this project. I learned that we should have definitely done our layout of the school on photoshop in the first place not only because it would look neater but it would also be a lot easier in the end. When we were supposed to assemble our final posters we had hard copies of the layout and my group member spent a long time trying to re design them in photoshop. This is the one thing that I would fix if we could re due this project again.
Working with my group was mostly beneficial. We worked well and we got things done effectively, for the first few days. After a few days it got more and more complicated. A few of my group member were starting to not work and hang out with friends which was annoying but it wasn't the end of the world. After that it got worse because one of my group members started not really showing up. The main thing that made me annoyed was that one person who disagrees with everything you say. We had that. This person disagreed so much on the design of the plan. I would have been fine with it when we were first designing it but she told us when we were almost done with our first draft. I learned that you just have to shake it off and let it slide because they are part of the design process as well. If I could have changed something I would have changed my attitude about this experience because if I would have been more calm about the situation then I probably wouldn't have been so stressed about the situation afterward.
I think that it is very important for student to have their own input into a project because it motivates them to do the project and also stick to the project. In this project I was motivated to finish because if the project doesn't succeed it's your own fault and you can't blame it on anyone else so it personally motivates me not to fail. There is no way that you could blame your group members either because you are getting a separate grade for participation. This project was great because it gave everyone a sense of independence. I think that it gives you confidence because when you look back on your project just like we did with our final poster it lets you see everything YOU accomplished.
