The passion project
For this passion project we first chose partners and my partner was Clara Wolf then we knew out what we wanted to do. We really wanted to do something involving dance, more particularly we wanted to do something involving old costumes. For our project, we took old costumes and created things out of them. We wanted to make dance shoe bags, scrunchies, and many other things. In the end, we made 3 drawstring bags and 16 scrunchies in the span of a few hours. We decided to do this because we have so many costumes that don't have another use after we wear them. I first started to think about this when my sister kept telling what a waste it was and I knew she was right. We decided to create a website to sell the products and after a while of thinking we came up with Tulle Transformation. We also decided that all of the proceeds would go to our dance studio for a scholarship fund for dancers who can not pay for classes because dance is very expensive in a small town like Durango. In this project, I learned that it is really hard to manage your time wisely when making items because you think a week is a lot of time but in reality, it's not a lot of time at all. At the end of it all, I realized that I am really passionate about this and want to continue with this project for as long as possible. When we were at the exhibition Mr. Farkas told us many things that we could do to improve our project and we really considered those things and we want to continue this project through the summer incorporating those changes.
Continuing on the aspect of future, Clara and I have many ideas for the summer. This summer we would really like to make a ton of products and maybe more than we said and see if we could sell them at particular stores downtown. Some of the ideas we have to refine our products are to make stickers so we can put them around town so people start getting an idea that Tulle Transformation actually exists. We also really want to put a logo on our items so we can start building an actual business. After talking to many parents at the exhibition they really wanted us to emphasize the fact that it is going to help other people and not just a profit for us. We really need to fix our website and change that up a little so that people know more about our cause. The hardest part about continuing with this project is that we might not have enough time. In the summer especially I am very busy so when I do have free time it will be very hard to motivate myself to continue with this project. If we keep going with this it would be interesting to see how it has evolved and maybe it could be one of our senior projects.
In this project, I learned a lot about myself as a learner but I also learned a lot about the importance of passion projects. I learned that it’s really easy for me to get buried in the idea that everything has to be perfect. To a certain point it as to be perfect but it doesn’t have to be when you are first starting out. I learned that I need to set things out per day and really stick with them so I don’t get overwhelmed. This is why the project logs helped a ton. Not only did I learn a lot about my self I also learned a lot about which projects are sustainable for students. I realized that these projects only fully work when you are crazy invested or interested in what you are doing. We have so much time to work on them that if you don’t like what you are doing it’s going to be boring and no fun. From working on this project I think it is really important for students to have a free chosen project to inspire creativity. Without this project, I would have been totally over school but this project has made me very interested in link and future projects.
